SAN
FRANCISCO (Mar 9, 2002) -- Months and months of preparation
all came down to one day, and that day began early. At 8:30am,
walk-in registration began with Chuck
Dog and Reality
of the MPL in line,
waiting to register. As they checked in and received their
t-shirts and name badge, they kicked back and watched all
the Madden ballers descend upon the registration desk.
By
8:45am, walk-in registration was full, and our stand-by list
was at 30+, all of which hoping to catch a glimpse of what
future gaming would be. We were already at our limit, we had
just under 100 ballers. The crowd was pumped, as they were
informed that the tournament would be a round robin format
guaranteeing them at least 3 games in their quest for the
glory.
At
10:30am, the doors opened and the crowd poured in. One eyewitness
said, "this is the ultimate madden setting". Spread throughout
the 3000 square foot floor where 45 19inch TV's, 45 PS2's
and a 12 x 9 foot projection screen ready and waiting to crown
the Big Brawler of the day.
After
6 hours of hard core round robin football, the dust cleared
and we were ready to begin the 32 man single elimination round.
Among the top 32 players where ballers from some of the MWS'
top leagues, such as BAMA
and the MPL. Representing BAMA, were 4 ballers who ran 3-0
in the round robin play, "T.O.", "Mr. G.", "Philly Guy", and
"the Upsetter". Representing the MPL where "Chuck Dog" and
"Reality" who ran 3-0 and 2-1 respectively.
In
a shocking turn of events, "the
Upsetter" lost in the first round, but fellow BAMA member
"Philly guy" stepped up and went all the way to the 4th round
where he was defeated by "Chuck Dog" in a thrilling 21-14
game.
"Head
Busta" plowed through his past 4 games where he scored just
under 200 points which made some believe that "Head Busta"
was the favorite. This set the stage for the championship
game.
"Head
Busta" jumped out first with a quick 7, but in true championship
game fashion, this game was determined by defense. "Chuck
Dog" and the Lions allowed only one more score the entire
game and kicked the game winning FG with no time remaining
on the clock to secure the victory. At 10:30 pm!
"Chuck Dog" of the MPL was the Brawl for it All's first Champion.
