No Debate Needed:
Madden National Championship A Must
Everyone we have
talked to is in favor of establishing a Madden National Championship Forum for
PSX. However, that doesn't mean in will be easy. There are the cost factors,
sponsorships, host sites, lodging accommodations and travel. BUT, if everyone
interested could get to South Florida, this was be the start of something incredible.
Can you imagine what this type of tournament could turn out to be? The fact
that Madden 99 is one of the greatest selling video games speaks to the popularity
of the game itself. With over a million copies sold, Madden players from all
over are looking for a way to unleash their football fury on opponents from
across the land. Nevertheless, at this point their is no current format to crown
a national champion; at least not yet.
As The PFL continues
to investigate the possibilities of setting up a world wide tournament, the
talk is that the dream could become a reality. Executive Director Charles is
the master mind behind this scheme. Although most PFL owners have said that
they are in favor of the idea, Charles (the logistics man) is doing the research
and leg work to put the proposal together for THE LEAGUE owners. If Charles
presents a logistically sound deal with sponsors and corporate host, look for
the PFL to go nationwide with its publicity and promotion of this spectacular.
Charles said that this is the kind of event that could turn into something that
would be nationally recognized. EA may even want to get involved. It could become
very lucrative for the winner with cash prizes included. According to the responses
from the internet, at least 45 players responded yes to a national championship
game. There were no negative responses.
How The Tournament
Could Work
128 applicants
would be selected on a first come first serve basis would participate in the
first annual tournament. It would be held over three days starting early Friday,
all day Saturday with the championship games on Sunday. It would be double elimination
with each team playing at least three games Friday, three games Saturday and
the championship game Sunday. At 7 minute quarters this would not be time consuming.
There would be 64 brackets, 32 on each side, with a minimum of 16 game monitors,
32 teams playing at one time, at one hour intervals. The tourny could start
at 5:00 PM on Friday. After being eliminated from national contention, we would
set up other exhibition games and tournaments so those booked for the entire
weekend could get some side games in or watch the other games. At the end would
be a trophy presentation along with other awards. The host site would be at
a hotel which all the members will be housed at so there would be no need to
travel outside of the hotel unless one wanted to sightsee. The last man standing
would be crowned "THE CHAMP." Then we could put to rest who is the best. In
the future if it outgrows itself, regional championships could be set up so
that only the true best travel the farthest to play.
With so many
people out there asking for this, don't be surprise if THE PFL steps up and
leads the way.
